koji, uehara winner!

the orioles sure did find a diamond in the rough with this uehara kid. in their first foray into the world of japanese baseball superstars, they managed to pluck an intriguing pitching prospect from the yomiuri giants. this hurler had been courted by the anaheim angels for years . . . . or at least that's what they were called back when they first started going after him in '98.

an exciting spring has morphed into an even more exciting start to the season. tonight . . . . before 22,866 fans at camden yards, koji went five innings, only surrendering five hits and one earned run. the orioles went on to defeat the new york yankees 7-5. although the future is uncertain, they have the possibility to sweep the bronx bombers, and produce their first season opening sweep since starting 3-0 in their 1997 wire-to-wire season that resulted in a division championship. does this excite me? of course it does! are you kidding me . . . . this is the perfect way to start a season. i just hope this isn't another april flash in the pan that us orioles fans have become far too accustom to.smile koji, you've earned it . . . . i hope this becomes a familiar sight over the next few months. orioles fans have certainly waited long enough . . . . it's about time the club got something right.

until then . . . . the clock strikes ten.
