hey nineteen

today is the day that i start my twentieth year. it's a day of personal celebration . . . . a day of reflection . . . . a day that takes so long to come, yet passes in a flash. in time, it will be over . . . . and i will be looking forward to the next one. but while it's still here, i just wanted to take a little bit of time to thank everyone. thank you mom and dad. thank you molly. thank you friends and family. thanks to everyone who has supported me in the past, and thanks to those who continue to stand by my side. you make me who i am.

i feel it's appropriate to offer up some lyrics . . . . so here's an old favorite of mine . . . . it's called hey nineteen:

way back when
in sixty-seven
i was the dandy
of gamma chi
sweet things from boston
so young and willing
moved down to scarsdale
where the hell am i

hey nineteen
no we can't dance together
no we can't talk at all
please take me along
when you slide on down

hey nineteen
that's 'retha franklin
she don't remember
the queen of soul
it's hard times befallen
the sole survivors
she thinks i'm crazy
but i'm just growing old

hey nineteen
no we got nothing in common
no we can't talk at all
please take me along
when you slide on down

the cuervo gold
the fine colombian
make tonight a wonderful thing

no we can't dance together
no we can't talk at all

lyrics by: steely dan
off of their album gaucho ©1980

eighteen down,

many more to go.
