boston latin school: sumus primi

it's been 374 years, six short of nineteen score, since our first school was founded.

april 23, 1635

boston latin school was our first public exam school. in fact many of boston's settlers . . . . who had originated from lincolnshire, uk . . . . did their best to model a school after boston grammar school, the pride of the aforementioned location. unbeknownst to them at the time, boston latin would go on to become the primary feeder school for harvard college (which was founded the very next year to accommodate boston latin's first graduating class).
class sizes have grown since its inaugural year from below ten, to well over 2300 students at the present time. as if the list of alumni wasn't prestigious enough with 4 harvard presidents, 4 massachusetts governors, and 5 signers of the declaration of independence; consider this list of dropouts...

william lloyd garrison . . . . benjamin franklin . . . . louis farrakhan

that's a helluva roll.

'til twenty four,

it's getting darker.
