earth day as we know it, took its present place on the calendar the next year. april 22, 1970 was a momentous day for the environment . . . . it was a momentous day for america . . . . a momentous day for earth. thanks to senator gaylord nelson from wisonsin, environmental teach-in days were held all over the united states, and over 20 million people participated.
as the years passed by, the numbers grew, and so did the awareness. every year on april 22, it's observed by more than 500 million people and national governments, in 175 countries. that's a lotta lovin'! as it should be. we should love the earth . . . . we should do our best to keep it clean . . . . and most of all, we should ensure future generations the right to do the same. happy earth day everyone. let's make it a good one! let's show the earth how much it means to us.
the clock strikes twenty two,
we're approaching midnight.
